LONDON David Beckham is to become a UN ambassador.

The English footballer's prestigious role will inspire poverty-stricken children around the world to get into sport.

The heartthrob's first mission is to fly to Africa in the New Year with charity UNICEF.

The Real Madrid star was chosen to represent the international body by Secretary General Kofi Annan because he is seen as an inspirational role model to young people.

A UNICEF spokesman is quoted by Britain's The Sun newspaper as saying: "We're very excited to have David involved. He's a brilliant role model and will go all round the world teaching boys and girls about football.

"He's worked with Unicef before when he was with Manchester United."

David said he was "thrilled and honoured" at a reception in London yesterday (11.11.04).

Meanwhile, the star is reportedly set to put a buzz back into his marriage - by buying his wife the most expensive sex toy in the world, according to Britain's Daily Star newspaper.

Beckham is allegedly planning to order the limited edition 1millionGBP platinum, jewel-encrusted vibrator for Victoria - who is pregnant with their third child.

Creator of the luxury toy, lap-dance king Peter Stringfellow, said: "David's got Golden Balls, now he can have a platinum penis. A little birdie told me on the way in that David has heard about the vibrator and would be interested in ordering one.

"It was going to be a one-off but we're going to make five for very special clients."
